Honoring a Legacy. Empowering a Future.
In the winter of 2013, Edna Hoium—a long-time Anoka County employee and retiree—stepped up during Stepping Stone’s darkest hour. When key staff walked out unexpectedly, Edna answered the call without hesitation. With fierce dedication and unwavering heart, she helped stabilize the organization and laid the foundation for the shelter it is today—a model of care and transformation in the Twin Cities metro.
When Edna passed away in September 2018, memorial gifts poured in from those touched by her strength and service. Her family, determined to honor her legacy in a lasting and meaningful way, partnered with Stepping Stone to create the Edna Hoium Education and Support Fund.
This special fund directly supports current and former residents who are taking brave steps forward—whether it's enrolling in school, pursuing job training, or securing the equipment or clothing needed for employment. From textbooks and tools to uniforms and certification fees, this fund helps remove the financial barriers that often stand between homelessness and stability.
You can donate in memory of a loved one or in honor of someone special. Every gift fuels possibility and transformation.
Together, we carry forward Edna’s legacy—one empowered life at a time.
